Description

Immerse yourself in the magic of the Lord of the Rings by visiting the film sights and the production studios!

The first step of your visit will be Courtenay Place, Wellington’s nightlife hotspot where you will visit the Embassy Movie Theatre. This is where the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and The Hobbit held their world premieres to almost 100,000 people (including a number of stars and celebrities!). You will then make your way to Mount Victoria where you will benefit from a spectacular view of the city and of Wellington’s port. Continue by descending the “green belt” towards the Outer Shire woods where a number of scenes were filmed!

The next stop will be “Weelywood”, the heart of Wellington’s film industry, located in the suburb of Miramar. This is where Peter Jackson and Weta productions created and produced the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit. The visit of the studios will also include the latest exhibit “Window into Workshop” revealing the daily operations of the studios and the production company during the making of all 4 films. Watch a short-movie on the immense digital technology work that helped with the films special effects. In addition, you will also have access to the cave-museum. You will also be given a guided tour themed around the creation of accessories and make-up.

Throughout this half-day visit, you will be accompanied by an expert guide and passionate Tolkien fan. He will tell you why Peter Jackson chose to film in the superb region.
