Explore the Cordillera de Guaniguanico and its breathtaking scenery on this walking tour!
The Cordillera de Guaniguanico is the main mountain range in the western part of Cuba. It consists of the Sierra de los Órganos to the west and the Sierra del Rosario to the east, separated by the río San Diego river. This landscape has a unique topography: Its "mogotes", a kind of rounded hill, contrast with the rest of the Cuban landscape of fertile plains. Of moderate altitude (the highest point rises to 699m), they are criss-crossed by caves, rivers, lakes and forests, serving as a habitat for tropical fauna and flora.
Departing from Viñales, and accompanied by your English-speaking guide, you will set off on a hike to explore the Cordillera de Guaniguanico during which you will have the opportunity to observe native animals and plants. You may even be lucky enough to spot the national bird, the Tocororo. This species is the symbol of Cuba thanks to its red, white and blue plumage, the same colours as the Cuban flag.
The Guaniguanico mountain range is also the birthplace of the "Acuaticos" community, which has existed since the 1930s and believes in the healing properties of water.
You will be exploring an exceptional natural setting and learning more about Cuban culture through your guide's commentary.
