Visit the Exploratorium, one of San Francisco's most famous museums!

This interactive museum is dedicated to exciting experiments, fascinating discoveries and powerful games!

Founded in 1969, the Exploratorium is packed with fun and fascinating activities for all of the family. Discover more than 600 interactive exhibits, including several experimental activities that were specially designed for the museum’s recent relocation to Pier 15.

Weird and wonderful environments are revealed through an eye-opening collection of artwork, installations and exhibitions. You’ll even get the chance to observe your own world on different scales and from different perspectives.

You can also take in spectacular views of San Francisco and the whole bay from the museum’s new observatory.

Good to know

  • Availability: every day except Monday (and exceptional dates)
  • Duration: day ticket
  • Opening times: 10am to 5pm
  • Language: all exhibits and activities are presented in English
  • Location: Exploratorium, Pier 15, central San Francisco (the exact address will be indicated on your voucher)
  • To visit the museum, just present your voucher at the entrance on the day
  • You will be asked to provide a provisional date for your visit when you book, but your ticket will be valid for 6 months from the date you give, meaning you are free to visit the museum on the day of your choosing within this period (and within the museum’s opening days/times – contact details on your voucher)
  • The best time to visit the museum is weekday afternoons, when it is considerably less busy than the weekend
  • The Tactile Dome is reserved for visitors over 7 years old. It is recommended to wear comfortable clothing for this physical activity
  • Parking is available in the vicinity of the museum
  • A variety of restaurants are located in the immediate area (both in the observatory and on the Embarcadero)
  • All exhibit halls, the shop, the café and the toilets are accessible to visitors with reduced mobility
  • Wheelchairs are on free loan at the entry
  • Guide dogs welcome
  • Exploratarium has released 2 interactive books, Sound Uncovered and Color Uncovered – both are available for free from the iTunes App Store
  • Souvenir shop on site  
  • The Exploratorium is also open for “After Dark” sessions, the first Thursday of the month, from 6pm to 10pm (over 18s only). Your day ticket is not valid for these events, which cost $15 (paid on the door)
