Set off on an unforgettable two-day adventure between Alcatraz, Aquarium of the Bay, Muir Woods and the Napa and Sonoma vineyards!
Day 1: Alcatraz & Aquarium of the Bay
On the first day, you'll embark on a ferry crossing to Island of Alcatraz, one of the world's most notorious prisons. Once a military fortress, Alcatraz became a federal prison in 1934, housing notorious criminals such as Al Capone and "Birdman" Robert Stroud. You'll discover its austere cells and fascinating history on an immersive audio tour.
After this plunge into San Francisco's prison past, head to the Aquarium of the Bay, located at Pier 39, where you'll explore the marine ecosystems of San Francisco Bay. You'll observe sharks, rays and jellyfish while learning about the importance of preserving California's coastal waters.
Day 2: Excursion to Muir Woods, Sonoma & Napa Valley
On day two, your excursion begins with a crossing of the Golden Gate Bridge, an architectural masterpiece inaugurated in 1937, which was the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time. After a photo stop to admire the breathtaking views over the bay, you'll head to the Muir Woods National Monument. This natural setting is home to thousand-year-old coastal sequoias, some of the tallest trees on the planet, some reaching over 75 meters in height.
Then on to the historic town of Sonoma, founded in 1835 by General Mariano Vallejo, and known for its role in the Bear Revolt that led to California's independence from Mexico in 1846. You'll have free time to explore Sonoma Square, one of the oldest in the state, lined with colonial buildings and charming artisan stores.
The afternoon will be dedicated to discovering the prestigious wine regions of Napa and Sonoma, whose winegrowing history dates back to the XIXth century with the settlement of the first European winemakers. You'll visit three carefully selected estates where you'll taste Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and other wines typical of the region, while enjoying the iconic rolling landscapes of Northern California.
Before heading back to San Francisco, a final stop at the Golden Gate Bridge will offer you one last opportunity to admire this icon of the city and capture memorable souvenirs of your getaway.
