Discover the historic city of Diriyah on a guided tour from Riyadh!
You'll be picked up from your hotel in the early morning to travel to Diriyah, just a few kilometres north-west of Riyadh. Situated on the western bank of the Wadi Hanifah, a dry riverbed where water only flows after heavy rains, Diriyah (or Dariya) was the capital of the Najd (the central plateau of the Arabian Peninsula) from the 15th to the early 18th century. It is the birthplace of the first Saudi kingdom and its importance in the history of the Arabian Peninsula was honoured when it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010.
You'll visit the city and its old quarters accompanied by a guide who'll tell you all about its past and it's importance in Saudi Arabian history. On the way back to Riyadh, you can admire the many ultra-modern buildings that bear witness to the rapid development of this cosmopolitan capital. You'll be taken back to your hotel in the early afternoon.
