You'll meet your professional guide at the entrance to the Raufarholshellir lava tunnel near the Threngslavegur road. After a safety briefing, you'll follow your guide on an unusual underground expedition. The lava tunnel is, as the name suggests, a tunnel formed after a volcanic eruption 5,000 years ago. The outer layer of lava solidified, and this created a tunnel 1,360 meters long, making it one of the longest lava tunnels in Iceland!
During the whole activity, you'll discover the amazing colors of the cave, the special underground atmosphere, and gently sink into the tunnel. Your guide will comment on the whole visit, and give you a few explanations about this natural phenomenon.
