Meet the adorable squirrel monkeys in the Dominican hinterland!
A "Safari Truck" will pick you up directly at your hotel to take you to Monkeyland Park, located about 45 minutes from Punta Cana. The visit starts at the "Casa Del Coco" where you'll learn about how coconut oil is produced. You'll also be able to taste fresh fruits, cocoa, roasted coffee, and Mamajuana, the typical Dominican Republic drink.
You'll then go to meet the adorable squirrel monkeys in the 2-hectare tropical garden they inhabit. These intelligent little animals, also known as Saimiri, are being raised by a Canadian couple with more than 35 years of experience working with animals, 12 of them at the Toronto Zoo.
The monkeys are used to human contact, coming down from the trees to sit on visitors' shoulders and eating out of their hands. It's so much fun to see the mothers carrying their babies on their backs, while they jump and climb. They also love to pose for the camera, especially selfies!
