Discover the tombs of France’s former kings and the gothic style of the Basilica of Saint-Denis!

The Basilica Cathedral of Saint-Denis is the first gothic-style masterpiece and the final resting site of France’s kings. A church belonging to a powerful Abbey, Saint-Denis was an important pilgrimage site during the middle-ages. It was designated a ‘basilica’ during the Merovingian period.

Over 70 sculpted coffins are housed in the basilica including that of Clovis, Dagobert, François the 1st and Louis the 14th...

  • Validity: Every day (except in exceptional cases such as certain religious services)
  • Hours: 10am/12pm to 5:15pm/6:15pm depending on the period* (given as an indication, please visit the monument's website to check opening times)
  • Duration: free visit
     
  • You are asked to select a tentative date when booking. Please note, however, that you will be able to take the tour on the date of your choice (see expiry date on your ticket)
  • Last admission 30 min before closing
  • The informative booklet is available in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Polish and Czech and will be given to you at the entrance
  • The monument is accessible to people with reduced mobility
  • Participants under 18 years of age and European Union residents under 26 disabled people (and their carers), jobseekers, holders of the Carte Culture - Carte ICOM and the Pass Education may enter free of charge on presentation of proof of entitlement
    PLEASE NOTE : all beneficiaries of free admission must go through the ticket office to check their credentials
  • Please note that all tickets issued are non-cancellable, non-changeable and non-refundable
  • Free admission on the first Sunday of each month only from November to March
