Description

Enjoy the fresh air of Normandy's villages, including the seaside town of Honfleur, on this 4-day excursion. Relive the pivotal events of the 1944 Allied landings at key sites along the coast, before heading to Brittany to explore the peaceful seaside resort of St Malo and Mont Saint-Michel, where you will visit the extraordinary abbey that perches on top of the hill.

See the final resting place of Leonardo da Vinci at Clos Lucé, explore the old town at Tours and visit the breathtaking Loire Chateaux of Chenonceau, Cheverny and Chambord.

Day 1

You will travel by coach from Paris to Rouen for a walking tour of the town's historic centre. You will then proceed to Honfleur, passing via the Normandy Bridge to take in the view. Make the most of some free time to have lunch in the town of Honfleur, renowned for its picturesque old port which feautures in paintings by artists such as Gustave Courbet and Claude Monet. After Honfleur, the next port of call will be the beaches of Normandy, site of the Allied landings of June 1944.

Visit the St Laurent Cemetery, which overlooks the sands of Omaha Beach where the Allied losses were heaviest. There you will find the names of some 1,557 missing soldiers inscribed on an immense "list of the missing" in the "garden of the missing", and the row of ten stone steles which mark the final resting place of 9,386 American soldiers.

Arromanches, the artificial harbour which was constructed by the Allies is the next stop on the tour. Finally, you will head to Caen where you will check into your hotel for dinner.

Day 2

After breakfast at your hotel in Caen,  you will visit another iconic French region: Brittany. At St Malo your guide will take you on a tour of the seaside resort's must-see landmarks such as the cathedral and the ramparts.

Once you have had lunch, your coach will set off for Mont Saint-Michel, located on the boundary between Brittany and Normandy. Climb up to the peak of the rocky islet for a guided tour of its stunning Gothic abbey, then enjoy some free time to stroll around the village.

As the afternoon draws to a close, you will set off for your hotel in Angers, which will provide dinner and accommodation for the night.

Day 3

After a buffet-breakfast at your hotel you will board the coach and set off for another day of sightseeing, stopping briefly to admire views of the château at Angers. The coach will then carry on to Langeais for a guided tour of the town's medieval château, followed by free time to have lunch in the Amboise wine-growing region.

In the afternoon, you will be taken to CLos Lucé, Leonardo da Vinci's home between 1516 and his death in 1519.

Take a tour of the gardens of Villandry Chateau, which are split onto three levels: the upper terrace, the ornamental garden and the kitchen garden. You will then go to Tours where you will be guided around the Old Town, famed for its medieval houses.

After a day packed full of cultural treasures, you will check into your hotel for the night.

Day 4

In the morning a guide will show you around Chenonceau Chateau and its famous art collections. Continue to Cheverny, where you will visit the statelly home which inspired cartoonist Hergé's Moulinsart Chateau and have lunch on-site.

In the afternoon you will make your way to the royal chateau of Chambord, the largest chateau in the Loire region, for a guided tour of this stunning site.

You will leave Chambord at around 4.30pm for the return journey to Paris.
