Description

Leave Tokyo for a day to explore the Nikko region and its iconic attractions!

Located in Tochigi prefecture 150 km north of Tokyo, Nikko is a city famous for its rich cultural heritage and exceptional natural sites. Enjoy a day in a national park away from the hustle and bustle of the capital and discover this jewel of Japanese history.

You'll meet your guide in Tokyo's Shinjuku district and travel to Nikko by coach. After a lunch break (optional), you'll visit Nikko Tosho-gu, a Shinto shrine built in the 17th century and dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, who was the first shogun of the Edo period. This shrine is one of the most important ones in the country and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. Take time to admire its unique traditional architecture, delicate ornamentation and dazzling colours.

After this tour, you'll be taken to the heart of Nikko National Park. After a drive along the winding Irohazaka mountain road, your next stop will be the Kegon waterfall. This 97m-high Nikko waterfall is a must-see and is considered one of the most beautiful in Japan. You'll then head to Chuzenji Lake, the highest in the country. You'll have a short break where you can admire the imposing Mont Nantai from the lake's bank.

At the end of the tour, you'll be driven back to Tokyo station.
