Immerse yourself in Native American culture and discover the customs and lifestyle of the Atikamekw community!
- Day 1 – Transport to the camp and meeting the community
Departing from Manawan, you will take a rowing boat to Matakan (35 mins journey approx.) Upon arrival, you will get settled in a traditional tipi. In the evening, you will have dinner with and get to know the Atikamekw community around a campfire.
- Day 2 – Rowing boat ride, learning about customs and traditional meal
Start your day by learning how to row a rowing boat. Over the course of your trip, you will share a picnic and have the chance to go swimming before going back to the camp in the early afternoon.
Your guides will then tell you all about the local customs. You will learn more about medicinal plants and the Atikamekw culture and language. You can even learn the basics of how to build a bark canoe!
In the evening, you can sit down and enjoy a traditional meal (fish, bannock, game, etc.) After the meal, you will go on a walk around the camp. Your guide will tell you all about the local flora and fauna.
Finish your day by drinking rowan berry tea at the fireside.
- Day 3 – Learning hunting techniques and return to Manawan
After breakfast, your guide will show you traditional game trapping techniques.
You will go back to Manawan in the late morning.
