Description

Discover Uji and its rich cultural heritage on a guided walking tour!

You'll begin your exploration at Uji station, about 30 minutes by train from Kyoto, where you'll meet your guide and the rest of the group. From there, you'll head straight to Byodo-in Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that appears on the  back of 10-yen coins. You'll admire the splendor of this temple, in particular its Phoenix Hall, and learn about its history and importance in Japanese culture.
After this cultural immersion, you'll take part in a real tea ceremony in the serene setting of Taihoan. In the heart of Uji, the cradle of Japanese green tea, you'll learn the traditional gestures of matcha tea preparation and soak up the tranquility of this ritual.
The tour will continue with a picturesque walk over the Tachibana and Asagiri suspension bridges, offering breathtaking views of the verdant landscape and the Uji River. Next, you'll visit the Uji and Ujigami shrines, places steeped in history and spirituality, before ending your adventure with a tasting of green tea and local produce on the Uji Bridge. You'll take time to stroll around and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of this iconic spot.
