Cienfuegos was founded in 1819 by French emigrants. It has retained a French-style architecture, reminiscent of the 19th century, and is now a Unesco World Heritage Site.
You will begin your tour on the pedestrianised streets soaking up the atmosphere of the city, until you reach the main square, Plaza José Marti, the locals' main hangout.
The city's key monuments are grouped around this square. Visit the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral and its French stained glass windows; get up close to its stunning columns. From the square, you can also admire the Tomas Terry Theatre, a National Monument, which is one of the finest examples of colonial architecture in the city. You will continue your visit with the Tomas Acea Cemetery, which is also designated a National Monument, to see a typical Cuban cemetery. To get there, you'll pass through a neoclassical pavilion with 64 columns inspired by Greek architecture.
You'll end your tour with a visit to the Palacio del Valle, which mixes several architectural styles but is overall inspired by Moroccan kasbahs.
