Description

Discover Bucharest's Jewish Quarter on a guided walking tour and explore the Jewish Museum to understand the history and heritage of Romania's Jewish community!

You'll meet your guide at the Holocaust Memorial, the starting point for your walking tour of central Bucharest. For around three hours, you'll wander the streets of the old Jewish quarter, tracing the history of this community that has shaped the urban, economic and cultural development of the Romanian capital.

As you walk, you'll discover how Jewish families, both Ashkenazi and Sephardic, settled in Bucharest in search of new opportunities. You'll learn about their traditions, their trades and their contribution to trade, crafts and the establishment of Romania's banking system. Your guide will share stories about influential personalities and the evolution of lifestyle within the neighborhood through the centuries.

You'll observe several emblematic sites linked to the city's Jewish history and understand the neighborhood's transformations over time, particularly during difficult periods such as World War II and the Communist era.

The tour will continue with entry to the Jewish Museum, housed in a former synagogue. Here you'll discover objects, photographs and documents tracing the resilience of the Jewish community in the face of persecution, including the Holocaust. This immersion will give you a better grasp of the historical and cultural importance of this community to Bucharest's identity.

At the end of the tour, you can stay in the neighborhood to continue your personal discovery of the city.
