Description
About 20km from Barcelona, visit the Gaudi Crypt in the industrial area of Colonia Güell!
Within the town of Santa Coloma de Cervelló you will find one of the most avant-garde industrial areas from the 19th Century: the Colonie Güell. Here you discover the Crypt designed by Gaudi, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.
THe area dates back to 1890, back when Eusebi Güell, an entrepeneur and patron, moved his textile materials from Barcelona to Santa Coloma de Cervelló. Today, one of the most important industrial complexes in Catalonia, it conserves its avant-garde character thanks to its urban design.
Designed by Gaudi, the crypt was firstly a project for the church, abandonned along the way for lack of means. As in all of Gaudi's other works, you will see that the crpyt is composed of architectural innovations such as railway arches, exterior walls and vaults with hyperbolic paraboloid forms.
Visiting with an audioguide ensures that you will learn lots about the buildings!
