Set out to discover the ancient city of Jerash in a small group!
From Amman, you will be driven to the thousand-year-old city of Jerash in an air-conditioned vehicle.
Long buried under metres of sand, Jerash was only rediscovered in 1806. Its similarities to the ancient city of Pompeii in Italy, in terms of its landscape and history, has earned Jerash the nickname the "Pompeii of the Middle East". Along the way, you will admire the temples, squares, theatres and colonnaded avenues that you will find on your way. Among the remains still present, you will discover the Oval Square, measuring 90 metres by 80 metres, encircled by Ionic-style columns dating from the 1st century CE. You will then discover the imposing Temple of Zeus, built in the 2nd century CE, overlooking the city. You will also discover the Temple of Artemis, daughter of Zeus in Roman mythology and protective goddess of Gerasa (Jerash in Arabic).
Throughout your tour, you will learn more about the history of Jerash and its people with commentary from your local expert guide.
You will return to Amman at the end of the tour.
